Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Academic technical (NAAS) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), joined ongoing nationwide industrial action.
Activities in both institutions had been grounded following the decision of the unions to down tool as directed by their national bodies.
The decisions to join the national body, Daily Trust gathered, were taken in separate meetings on Monday held by members of the unions in their various institutions in the state.
The chairman of Joint Action committee of trade unions at Ojukwu Varsity at Igbariam, comprising the three groups, Andrew Okeke, described the strike as total and indefinite, adding that any member of the association seen at the three campuses of the institution would have him or herself to blame.
He said the unions embarked on the strike for about 12 reasons, highlighting the arrears of earned allowances and the failure of the federal government to implement the 2009 agreement as top in the list.
Okeke added that the three campuses of Ojukwu varsity at Igbariam in Anambra East council area, Uli in Ihiala council area and the teaching hospital at Awka would be closely monitored by the monitoring team set up by (JAC).
In her own statement, the chairperson of (SSANU) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Njideka Nwangwu told newsmen that a monitoring team of Joint Action Committee of the institution had been deployed to ensure full compliance of members.
“ No staff of these three unions is to be seen in this campus, Starting from tomorrow. We will wait for further directives from our national leaders and we are not going back on the decision,” he said.
