Senator Dino Melaye has again raised alarm over an alleged plot by the police to kill him
The lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, says the police have been looking for him in order to kill him.
He stated that his life is being threatened since the police withdrew his security details on April 22.
Melaye, who raised alarm on Friday, also berated the police for refusing to release his passport as ordered by a Magistrate’s Court in the Federal Capital Territory.
Melaye said he asked his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, to collect the passport on his behalf as he no longer felt safe with the police.
The lawmaker, who briefed journalists in Abuja, alleged that several attempts by him to retrieve his passport from the police based on the order of the court had failed.
Melaye, who said that the Police earlier set a precedent when they released his passport to enable him go for medical treatment abroad, wondered what made the July 25th, 2018 order difficult for them to comply with.
He said, “If a law enforcement agency will be the one breaking the law, how do you enforce the law. In a country under the rule of law, if an order of the court is given release this man’s passport, why would the court order not be obeyed. This buttresses the fact that the Police is still after me.
“The same police have been looking for me to kill me. As I speak to you, I have six arraignments in six different courts for one frivolous, framed-up charge or the other.
“No politician has been so humiliated in this country. Six arraignment! One by the Federal Government through the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and five by the Nigeria Police. “The latest was on Wednesday last week, a fresh arraignment before an FCT High Court,” he said.
